Route overview
BLM describes the campground approach as improved dirt that is typically well maintained and receives no winter maintenance. BLM separately recommends a high-clearance vehicle for the three-mile Boar’s Tusk access road.
Route map and access sequence
The graphic is a schematic, not a navigation map. The route follows US-191 north from Rock Springs, then County Road 4-17 / Tri-Territory Loop Road with signed or mapped side roads to the individual BLM sites.
How the route mileage is calculated
BLM directions place Boar’s Tusk about 31 road miles from Rock Springs and describe the Killpecker campground as about 32 miles from Rock Springs. The agency pages use rounded mileages and differ slightly in how they describe the US-191 approach, so CIWILD publishes an about-70-mile core total rather than a precise figure. The optional White Mountain access road is 3 miles each way, adding about 6 miles. This is a source-derived planning calculation, not a GPS track.
Two-day itinerary
The core itinerary is about 70 road miles. The optional White Mountain Petroglyphs access-road out-and-back adds about 6 miles, for about 76 miles total. These are CIWILD calculations from rounded BLM directions, not GPS-track or odometer measurements.
Day 1 — Rock Springs, Boar’s Tusk and camp
Use Rock Springs as the service gateway, choose the optional cultural stop, visit Boar’s Tusk and continue to the BLM campground.

Vehicle and road guidance
BLM publishes one route-specific vehicle recommendation: high clearance for the Boar’s Tusk access road. It does not publish passenger-car, AWD or 4WD ratings for the complete itinerary.

Camping options
Both options are official BLM camping areas. The primary campground has basic facilities; the backup is intended for self-contained vehicles and has none.
