Founder of CIWILD, creating free dispersed-camping guides using public-land sources, GPS data, field research, and firsthand observations.
About Rita
I started CIWILD because finding reliable dispersed-camping information shouldn’t require piecing together outdated blog posts, forum threads, and incomplete maps.
CIWILD helps travelers research campsites and routes across public lands in the Western United States. Some guides are based on places I’ve personally visited, while others are developed through careful research using agency maps, public-land records, documented coordinates, official notices, and other relevant sources.
Each guide aims to make that distinction clear. Firsthand observations are identified as such, and researched information is not presented as personal experience.
I also use a Toyota Tacoma SR5 while researching camping routes and practical overlanding needs. Through CIWILD, I focus on dispersed camping, public-land access, off-grid travel, route research, and the equipment travelers use along the way.
Background
Rita is the founder of CIWILD, an independent resource focused on dispersed camping and public-land travel in the Western United States.
Her work includes researching campground locations, route information, public-land boundaries, access considerations, and practical overlanding equipment. CIWILD distinguishes between firsthand field observations and information compiled through research.
How CIWILD verifies information
CIWILD separates firsthand observations from researched information. Research may include BLM and USFS resources, agency maps, documented coordinates, official notices, and other sources identified in the guide.
Coordinates and access information are checked before publication when practical, but they don’t guarantee current road conditions, legal access, campsite availability, or the absence of temporary restrictions.
Coverage transparency
Some CIWILD campsites and routes are based on my firsthand visits. Others are researched using public-land records, agency maps, documented coordinates, and additional cited sources. Each guide identifies whether it is based on firsthand experience or research.
Land access, road conditions, fire restrictions, and camping rules can change. Travelers should confirm current conditions with the relevant land-management agency before visiting.
